Who's Alli Hames?

I was born in Vernon B.C in 1983. In 1986 the family moved west to Salt Spring Island. From a very young age my interest in art was keen. Under the constant influence of my father, and mother, I was exposed to the arts of painting, drawing, and sculpting. Many of my early memories, are filled with hours spent watching my father drawing, or leafing through the massive volumes of various art history books.

As a teenager I befriended a local painter, Nicola Weston, who immediately set to teaching me all she new. This friendship led some years later to meeting a between me and Nicola’s colleague Brian Jefcoat. Brian was working remote as a 3d modeller, and offered to have me apprentice under him. Wasting no time at such a fantastic chance, I accepted. I studied under Brain for three years, as well I did work experience with Atomic Monkey in Los Angeles. This was a very interesting time for me as a young artist, because, for the first time, I found myself in the company of full time illustrators, and animators.

It was in 2008 that things took an abrupt change for me, as I was starting my own family. Now after the birth of my first child, my journeys continues, fuelled more then ever buy my want to create new works of art, and advance my knowledge of design, form and technique. Tools I Use

Charcoal

The charcoal medium is extremely versatile, it may be used both wet or dry, charcoal is known for it's velvety blacks and and responds wonderfully under a sensitive hand.

Oil Paint

This medium allows the painter the freedom of painting true vivid colors. The oil based paints are slow drying and can offer flexibility to produce a "wash-like" painting effect, or they may be used generously. oil paints are almost limitless in there convenience and options.

Pencil

In my work, I frequently use graphite pencils, colored pencils, pen, and graphite shavings. These mediums are often used in junction with the others listed above.
